The Metis Nation British Columbia Announces Approval For New Health Initiative
Vancouver, BC – Métis Nation British Columbia's President and Minister for Health, Bruce R Dumont, announces today that MNBC's Health Ministry has recently been invited by the Public Health Agency of Canada to apply for an additional 4 years of funding for Chronic Disease Surveillance. "We are very excited to have this opportunity to continue our Ministry's work on this important priority for our Metis communities in BC" said President Dumont.
MNBC recently received approval for $35,000 from the National Collaborative Centre for Aboriginal Health (NCCAH) on an exciting new paternal initiative. We will be hosting focus groups for Métis fathers and their role in the raising of healthy children and the sharing of this important information with our young Métis men.
The MNBC Ministry of Health is pleased to be working with the MNBC Ministries of Women and Elders to host a Metis Women's Health Conference in the Lower Mainland (venue to be announced) March 5th, 6th and 7th. Please watch the MNBC Health website for additional information as it becomes available.
President Dumont commented; "on behalf of the MNBC Board of Directors, I would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank Health Director Tanya Davoren and her Health Team in their work and commitment to the MNBC Health ministry and added he looks forward to a better and healthier tomorrow for all BC Métis citizens".
