Registry NotificationCard Renewal Requirement

Renewal notifications are sent by the Central Registry to Citizens requiring renewal ninety (90) days prior to the card expiration. Please ensure your contact information with the Central Registry is current to ensure a timely notification.

Métis Nation British Columbia reserves the right to suspend a Citizenship card due to non-compliance with a renewal request.

A Citizen holding a suspended Citizenship card surrenders the privileges attached to the card. Upon providing the necessary information the Central Registry can reinstate the Citizenship card.

Failure to renew a Citizenship card within ninety (90) days of written notification will result in card suspension as per Section 3.3 Citizenship Card Renewal of the Central Registry Policies and Procedures.

MNBC Registryhas updated the Citizenship process - APRIL 1st, 2011

The MNBC Registry has updated the applications and removed fees

Recently, the office of the Provincial Registrar for the Metis Nation BC reduced the number of application types in an effort to further streamline the application process. Previously there had been an adult application for individuals sixteen years and older, as well as three categories for children depending on their age. Changes have been made to simplify the process and now includes only two application types - one for applicants fifteen years and older, and one for children fourteen years and under. Previously children over the age of five years were required to provide a photograph to include on their card, however, with the new process, this will not be necessary. As a child's appearance can change dramatically in a short time, the Provincial Registry has removed this requirement for children, and no photograph or signature will appear on their card until they enter the adult category at fifteen years of age.

Citizenship cards are renewed every five years. The Registry forwards a written notification to citizens as a reminder when renewal is required. This renewal will now only be applicable to adult card holders. A child card will not require renewal until they enter the adult category

The Registry has strived to keep the cost of the application process as low as possible. The twenty dollar processing fee previously required, has been removed due to funding available to off-set the cost of card printing. Beginning April 1st, 2011, the MNBC Registry will have no application fee. Please note, fees for supporting documentation paid to vital statistics agencies still apply, although, if you need assistance with these costs, please contact your Registry Clerk to inquire about how she may be able to assist you.
