Summer Sage "Laura Langstaff & Melissa Hall"

Summer Sage is a duo comprised of Laura Langstaff and Melissa Hall. Both Laura and Melissa are Saskatchewan-born Metis descendants from the historic Red River Metis community of St. Boniface, Selkirk County, Manitoba. Laura and Melissa perform original contemporary Metis folk music written in the ballad tradition of Pierre Falcon, who is a cultural icon of Metis peoples across the Metis Homeland.

Summer Sage music has been performed in such world class venues as Carnegie Hall; Rideau Hall in a performance for former Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson; Lillith Fair with Sarah Maclachlan; performances for various federal government ministries such as Human Resources Development Canada (HRSDC), Health Canada, Revenue Canada (CCRA), Statistics Canada, and was featured in a cross-Canada tour of the Canada Information Office, at fairs and exhibitions from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland. The original Metis-flavoured roots music presented in two compact discs, namely "Summer Sage" and "Medicine Winds". The music of Laura Langstaff (composer and lyricist) has presented historical events from a Metis perspective in some of the music. In other selections Langstaff captures the soulful aspects of the Metis spirit in the ballad tradition of Pierre Falcon a Metis Poet Icon.

Melissa Hall (vocalist, flutist) highlights this music with deep, resonant harmonies of the earth and of the wind one moment, and creates imagery of flight with flute at other moments. A Summer Sage set is well balanced with songs of lively tempo as well as ballads.

Métis Artist Dennis J. Weber

Dennis Joseph Weber was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1951 and lived most of his life in Calgary. He feels his art has been greatly influenced by his mother's Métis heritage. The fascinating story of the Métis Nation's 17th century origins, through to the eventual recognition of Nation Status in the 20th, could be told through Dennis' ancestors.

About a century after Riel's prediction, Dennis started to explore the possibility of becoming a full-time artist, and since then has achieved not only this, but is also considered one of Canada's foremost Métis artists. His personal collection of Métis artifacts is often on display at cultural events alongside his art; most notably the 2007 exhibition We Are Métis at the Kelowna Museum. He is proud to identify with the revitalized Métis Nation.
