Métis Nation British Columbia hosts highly successful 14th Annual General Meeting

Abbotsford, BC (September 27, 2011) - Around 300 Métis from across the Métis Nation British Columbia converged on Abbotsford this past weekend, to attend the 14th annual general assembly. There were numerous positive presentations, speeches and celebrations acknowledging the achievements during the past year. Some of the highlights include:

  • Greetings from BC Senator Gerry St. Germain who discussed the importance of unity within the Métis Nation;
  • The signing of an historic MNBC Gov't of BC Health Data Agreement;
  • President Bruce Dumont's final speech as MNBC President (read speech below);
  • A special presentation acknowledging the sacrifices made by our Métis Veterans;
  • A visit from the Métis National Council to explain the move toward a Métis Nation; Constitution;
  • A final salute from Métis Veteran Jim Louttit who is leaving BC for the green pastures of Saskatchewan;
  • MNBC Dave Hodgson announces his retirement from the Métis Nation in 2012;
  • MNBC Minister for Finance Bob Trumbley presents positive results for MNBC Debt Recovery strategy although, more work needs to be done;
  • A strong youth presence at the AGM;
  • MNBC delegates pass the next stage of the Debt Recovery Plan supporting the decision to seek a new mortgage;
  • Métis Women of British Columbia were honoured for their strength, support and determination in moving the nation forward - Prov. Chair Donna Wright thanks her delegates.
